I created Embodied Education as a way to integrate a somatic pedagogy based upon yogic and indigenous wisdom and traditions into early childhood education.
As I celebrate my 30th year of practice and 15th year of teaching yoga and sound therapy; I have come to realise as a mother that instilling a somatic education from as early an age as possible sets the stage for success of the whole person into adulthood.
From the ages of 0-7, we form our worldview. Our sense of self, safety and security is created entirely within this window.
The privilege of having emotionally secure and mature role models during this time has life long benefits that every child deserves to have access to, regardless of their situation.
Recently diagnosed with ADHD, I came to understand why yoga. meditation and sound therapy became such a pillar in my life. They also became the necessary tools I relied upon as a single mother to raise two happy neurodiverse children.
I realised that what has taken me a lifetime to learn could be integrated into early childhood education through the educators who care for and spend all their working hours looking after our children.
I have also worked teaching yoga in early childhood centres across Brisbane for the last decade and witnessed first hand how they help children, but realised that this education is something that would benefit care givers and role models especially, because we can only give what we ourselves have to offer.
Embodied Education offers these tools to educators so they are able to experience the benefits of self regulation, emotional maturity and resilience, enabling them to then be able to co-regulate with children and teach from a place of safety, calm and security.
It also offers many ancient practices used for health and wellbeing as fun ways that can be easily integrated into class planning and play sessions that will improve children's sense of place and belonging, physical autonomy and emotional awareness.
There is also a membership for parents of young children so they can best regulate themselves for the task of raising happy and healthy people.
These two programs are designed to work together, ensuring that more care givers are equipped with the necessary tools to create more space for ease and peace in the increasingly growing load of raising children.
